A 20-year-old woman was killed in shelling in the Sumy region while shielding her younger sister with her body
Russian artillery launched a targeted strike on a residential building in the Zno-Novgorod community of the Shostka district.
As a result of the enemy attack, 20-year-old Daria Sergienko lost her life after shielding her younger sister with her own body at the last moment.
The tragedy occurred on March 28 around 12:00 p.m., when the occupiers opened fire on a residential area where civilians lived.
The older sister died at the scene, while the six-year-old girl sustained extremely severe injuries; doctors are currently fighting to save her life.
Doctors at the Shostka Medical College, where Dasha studied, confirmed their student’s heroic act.
“Dasha shielded her younger sister with her own body. This act will forever remain in our memory as a symbol of the highest self-sacrifice,” reads a statement from the educational institution.
Currently, the injured child is in critical condition under constant supervision by surgeons, who have already performed a complex operation.
Specialists are consulting with colleagues from Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, but transporting the girl is currently impossible for medical reasons.
The girl’s parents were also injured during the shelling, but their injuries allowed them to remain by their younger daughter’s side in the hospital.
The family is in a state of shock and is receiving the necessary psychological and medical assistance from volunteers and staff.
As a reminder, Russians attacked three settlements in the Chernihiv region with drones; a child was injured.
The Russians also attacked Kyiv Oblast with drones: there is damage.
