Nausėda calls for a strike on “untouchable” Russian companies
President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda urged the European Union to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and Belarus, including targeting companies that have so far been considered untouchable.
He made these remarks after arriving at the EU summit in Brussels, according to European Pravda.
The Lithuanian leader emphasized that allies must move from partial and cautious steps to decisive and effective measures.
Nausėda stressed that it is critically important to support Ukraine with all available tools, and sanctions are one of the key levers of pressure on the Kremlin.
He noted that restrictions against Russia and Belarus should be as severe as possible, without exceptions for major players in the energy market. According to him, only such an approach can make Moscow truly feel the consequences of its aggressive policies.
The Lithuanian president specifically highlighted that it is time to “touch the untouchables” — large Russian companies that have so far avoided the harshest sanctions.
Among them, he directly named Gazprom, Novatek, and Lukoil, which remain important sources of revenue for the Russian budget. Nausėda believes that without a serious blow to these entities, the EU’s sanctions policy will not achieve the desired effect.
