Deutsche Welle declared an “undesirable organization” in Russia
The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation has officially added the German media company Deutsche Welle to the list of undesirable organizations, attempting to limit access to independent information within the country.
The relevant data was published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Justice.
In response to this decision, DW’s CEO Barbara Masing emphasized that such actions by the Kremlin will not intimidate journalists, and the company will continue to objectively cover the aggressive war Russia is waging against Ukraine. According to her, these steps by the Russian authorities only confirm their fear of a free press and unwillingness to respect freedom of speech.
The German government also strongly condemned Moscow’s actions, calling them another attempt to suppress independent media. Official German government spokesperson Stefan Cornelius noted that Russia’s decision reflects the deep concern of its leadership about the dissemination of truthful information regarding the war of aggression.
Despite legal pressures and bans, Deutsche Welle plans to use all available technical means to deliver news to audiences in Russia, helping people form their own opinions based on facts rather than propaganda.
