A New Jet-Powered Shahed: What Is Known About the Geran-4 Siker

Russian propaganda outlets have published a video of the new "Geran-4 Seeker" drone, which they describe as a significantly upgraded version of the "Shahed" drone. According to Russian officials, the drone has greater speed, a new guidance system, and the ability to locate targets more accurately.

The Russians claim that this drone could pose a serious threat to Ukrainian defenses and civilian infrastructure. Meanwhile, Ukrainian experts are already studying the new version of the drone and looking for ways to counter it.

In the video released, the Russian side claimed that the “Geran-4 Seeker” has a flight range of approximately 550 kilometers. It is also reported that the drone can carry a payload weighing up to 50 kilograms. According to reports in the Russian media, the drone is equipped with a turbojet engine. According to the manufacturer, this engine allows the drone to reach speeds of up to 300 km/h—significantly faster than many drones of this type.

In addition, the Russians claim that the drone is equipped with a computer vision system. According to them, this system allows the drone to independently identify and track ground targets during the final stage of flight. The manufacturer of the “Geran-4 Seeker” is the Alabuga company, located in Tatarstan.

Serhiy Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, reported that the Russians may also install the “Siker” module on other versions of the “Geran” drones—from the second to the fourth models.

According to him, the jet-powered version of the “Geran-4 Seeker” is currently the one most frequently mentioned. “The Russians expect that it will be more difficult for Ukraine to engage jet-powered targets. But Ukrainian experts understand this and are already working on appropriate countermeasures,” Beskrestnov noted.

The new variant could mark the next stage in the development of Russian attack drones. In recent years, Moscow has been actively modernizing its drones, seeking to make them faster, more accurate, and harder to destroy.

At the same time, the final specifications of the “Geran-4 Seeker” and the actual capabilities of this drone have not yet been independently confirmed. The Ukrainian military continues to monitor the emergence of new Russian developments and adapt its defense systems. This was reported by Russian propaganda media.

Russia has unveiled a new line of “Saturn” drones, which it plans to use for reconnaissance missions and cargo delivery.
