As they fled their positions, the Russian occupiers lost the relics of Dmitry Donskoy
The Russian Orthodox Church has acknowledged the loss of a fragment of a relic—part of the remains of the medieval Moscow prince Dmitry Donskoy—which had been brought to the front lines to boost the occupiers’ morale. Russian troops left the reliquary containing the relic behind during a chaotic retreat from a prayer service near Lyman.
Russian military personnel sounded the alarm after the relic was left behind at the abandoned positions. In September, the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church sent a reliquary containing a fragment of the prince’s right hand to the front lines, following a religious procession in Moscow and a blessing of the occupying forces in Donetsk.

The Russian Orthodox Church has delivered a reliquary containing a fragment of Prince Dmitry Donskoy’s right hand from the 14th century to the part of the Donetsk region temporarily occupied by Russia. It has already been brought to the Savur-Mohyla military memorial and is now being transported along the front lines.
Earlier, the Russian Orthodox Church had raised the possibility of transferring part of Dmitry Donskoy’s remains to the front lines, and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin publicly supported the church’s plans.
