The grandson heard the final moments of his grandmother's life over the phone during the Russian attack on Kherson
During a Russian strike on a high-rise building in Kherson, an elderly woman died in her own apartment, remaining in contact with her grandson until the very end.
Olga Chernyshova, a volunteer from Kherson, recounted the tragedy.
According to her, the woman called her grandson during the fire after the strike. She reported that the apartment was engulfed in flames and smoke, and the door was jammed, preventing her from getting out.
“She was screaming into the phone that the apartment was on fire, that there was fire and smoke all around, that she was suffocating, and that she was trying to unlock the door, but it was jammed,” Chernyshova recounted, quoting eyewitnesses.
Her grandson heard the final moments of his grandmother’s life and that of her dog, who were trapped in the fire. The connection was lost after the woman stopped responding.
The tragedy occurred on the night of June 3 following a Russian shelling of a high-rise building on Tekstilnikov Avenue in Kherson.
Meanwhile, in another building, State Emergency Service rescuers evacuated an elderly couple who, due to heavy smoke, could not leave their apartment and were waiting for help on the sixth-floor balcony. The retirees were hospitalized.
As a reminder, Russia attacked the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, causing a fire.
Prior to this, Russian KABs struck the Zaporizhzhia region, resulting in injuries.
Five State Emergency Service rescuers were killed as a result of the Russian attack on Kharkiv.
