An SBU official has been named as a suspect for organizing an ammunition depot in the village of Mila near Kyiv
On September 10, it was reported that State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) officials had served a notice of suspicion to the head of one of the support units of the Security Service of Ukraine, who was responsible for the setup and operation of an artillery ammunition depot near Kyiv in the village of Mila.
The investigation established that when the decision was made to locate the depot in a former vegetable storage facility, he failed to take all necessary safety measures for the secure storage of explosives and ammunition. Furthermore, the depot was illegally located near a residential area.
Not only did the facility fail to meet the requirements for ammunition depots, but its location had also not been coordinated with the relevant law enforcement agencies and air defense units. Furthermore, the official failed to take measures to minimize the risk of the enemy simultaneously destroying a large quantity of ammunition.
On August 28, Russian drones struck the aforementioned depot, causing the ammunition to detonate and a fire to break out, which spread to neighboring buildings.
The explosion killed 35 people. In addition, 191 private residential buildings, 14 apartment buildings, a police station, garages, a restaurant, a retirement home, a store, and a logistics center, as well as 24 vehicles, including a police patrol car and a fire truck.
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv ordered him to be held in pretrial detention, with the alternative of posting bail.
As a reminder, on September 7, traffic was fully restored on the section of the M-06 Kyiv–Chop highway in the Kyiv region following a Russian strike on warehouse facilities in the village of Mila.
Following the Russian strike in the Kyiv region, people were prohibited from approaching the debris.
