No confirmation of Russian use of “Skorlupa” naval drone – Pletenchuk
Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, confirmed that Ukraine is monitoring the potential use of a new Russian naval drone called “Skorlupa”.
According to him, such threats are real, but there is no verified evidence that this drone has been used in combat. Pletenchuk emphasized that the enemy could employ such attack technologies, and Ukrainian forces are adapting their strategies to meet these emerging threats.
“We consider any such threats as real and base our actions on potential dangers. I cannot say that I have confirmed cases of its use. These drones are dangerous even to themselves. Regarding the threat, we assume the enemy might use such attack tools, and we account for that in our daily operations,” Pletenchuk said.
It is noted that Russia is attempting to replicate Ukraine’s experience with drones, but deploying new technologies requires time for testing and correcting potential errors.
“If someone is copying you, it means you are ahead. These technologies always require time for trials, testing, and fixing mistakes, which usually takes quite a while,” Pletenchuk added.
He also stressed that Russia trying to emulate Ukraine indicates Ukraine’s advantage in security technology development. The country will continue monitoring the situation and improving its defensive capabilities.
