Peskov says frontline communications via Telegram are “impossible to imagine”
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has claimed that restrictions on Telegram would not affect the coordination of Russian forces in Ukraine.
According to him, it is “difficult and impossible to imagine” that frontline communications could be conducted through Telegram or any other messaging service.
“I do not think it is possible to imagine that frontline communication is ensured via Telegram or some messenger. It is hard and impossible to imagine,” Peskov said.
He was responding to statements by pro-war “Z-bloggers”, who have argued that Telegram remains one of the key means of communication within the Russian military and that blocking it could cause serious coordination problems.
The Kremlin spokesperson also expressed dissatisfaction that Telegram allegedly fails to comply with Russian legislation.
Earlier, media reports indicated that from 10 February Russia’s communications regulator, Roskomnadzor (RKN), began slowing down the Telegram messaging service in the country.
Telegram founder Pavel Durov has publicly commented on the restrictions for the first time, comparing the actions of the Russian authorities to policies pursued by Iran.
