Poland prepares aid package for Ukraine that may include PAC-3 missiles

Poland is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine that may include several PAC-3 interceptor missiles for US-made Patriot air defense systems. Anadolu Agency reports, citing Polish broadcaster TVP.

Expected value of the package

According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, the planned package is expected to be worth about €50 million. The aid will primarily focus on air defense capabilities.

Poland’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed that it is preparing a new military support package but did not disclose its contents, citing official secrecy. The ministry told the newspaper Rzeczpospolita that the package would include equipment being withdrawn from service by the Polish Armed Forces due to the end of its service life.

According to Poland’s Ministry of National Defense, this equipment will no longer be used in Poland, but it may still be useful to Ukraine.

Limited number of missiles

PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Poland’s Patriot systems are being considered among the items that may be transferred to Ukraine, sources familiar with the aid preparations said. Poland’s operational commander, Major General Ireneusz Nowak, supported providing Ukraine with Patriot ammunition and noted that the number of missiles would be limited.

In July, Poland transferred five PAC-3 missiles to Ukraine. Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to its allies for additional air defense ammunition amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.

Kyiv has also stressed the need for PAC-3 interceptors ahead of an expected Russian winter campaign targeting civilian and energy infrastructure. Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said in July that Poland had provided Ukraine with about €3.8 billion in military aid.
