Ukraine's air defense forces are already shooting down jet-powered drones from robotic turrets
Ukrainian air defense forces are already shooting down jet-powered UAVs using robotic turrets. Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ignat reported on October 5 that a “Geran-5” was among the targets shot down.
“Robotic turrets… are now being installed on bridges as well… We’ve already shot down even jet-powered UAVs, including the ‘Geran-5,’ using those very turrets. I was also very skeptical; I wondered how that was possible. But the use of innovative technologies and artificial intelligence has eliminated human error and improved technical calculations. Machine vision is specifically used in the shoot-downs. Artificial intelligence even allows us to target jet-powered UAVs.”
At the same time, during the TV broadcast, Ignat added that the operational radius of these robotic turrets is small, since machine guns are currently the primary means of shooting down UAVs there.
As a reminder, Russia has equipped the Geran-4 jet-powered drone with a new optical navigation system.
As a reminder, 12 AI-equipped turrets were installed in Kyiv to combat jet-powered Shahed drones.

On the morning of October 3, Russian troops struck the North Bridge in Kyiv. Prior to this, a series of explosions rang out in the capital amid an air raid alert and the threat of attacks by strike drones.
