Air defence destroys 61 of 82 drones during overnight attack on Ukraine

On the night of 15 January, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Ukrainian territory, deploying 82 attack unmanned aerial vehicles of various types.

Among them were Shahed drones, including jet-powered modifications, as well as Gerbera, Italmas and other types of UAVs.

Operational information from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine indicates that a significant number of the drones were neutralised, although some still reached their targets.

According to the military, as of 08:30 air defence units had shot down or suppressed 61 enemy drones. At the same time, 21 attack drones were recorded hitting 13 different locations across various regions of the country. In three additional locations, debris from downed drones fell, causing minor damage to infrastructure.

The drones were launched from multiple directions — from the Russian cities of Kursk, Orel, Bryansk, Primorsk-Akhtarsk and Millerovo, as well as from the settlement of Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea and from occupied Donetsk.

Around 60 of the 82 UAVs were Shahed-type attack drones, which the enemy actively uses for night-time strikes on energy facilities and civilian infrastructure.

As a reminder, units of the SBS of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 59 enemy drone launch sites.

In addition, Ukrainian forces eliminated more than a thousand occupiers over the past day.
