Ukraine downs 99 of 119 Russian drones in large-scale attack
Air defense forces of Ukraine neutralized 99 out of 119 drones launched by Russian forces during an attack on the country starting on the evening of April 8.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.
It is noted that starting from 6 p.m. the enemy carried out a massive air assault using strike UAVs of the Shahed type, as well as drones such as “Gerbera,” “Italmas,” and others. Launches were conducted from the directions of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from temporarily occupied territories — Crimea and Donetsk. About 70 of the drones were Shahed-type.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data as of 8 a.m. on April 9, air defense forces shot down or suppressed 99 enemy drones in the north, south, and east of the country.
At the same time, 16 strike UAVs hit targets at 11 locations, and debris from downed drones fell at four additional locations.
The Air Force emphasized that the attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still in Ukrainian airspace.
The day before, Russian forces attacked the Stetskivka district in the Sumy region twice in one evening using drones. A woman was injured as a result.
Emergency power outages were introduced in several regions of Ukraine.
In Obukhiv, a Russian Shahed drone hit a residential building.
As a result of a massive attack on the Kyiv region, one person was killed.
Air defense forces also neutralized 345 drones during a large-scale daytime attack by Russia.
Russian forces attacked Odesa with more than 60 strike drones, according to Zelenskyy.
Drones attacked the Poltava region — one person was killed.
A nighttime Russian attack damaged port infrastructure in the Odesa region.
There were 34 strikes on the Chernihiv region in one day, damaging energy facilities.
