Russia attacked energy facilities in Donetsk region, Slavutych left without power

Russian occupiers attacked an energy generation facility in Donetsk region on the night of 5 January. As a result of Russia’s drone attacks, the city of Slavutych was completely left without electricity.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

According to Deputy Minister of Energy Oleksandr Vyazovchenko, as of 5 January, power outages were recorded in Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.

“As a result of the enemy attack, the city of Slavutych is completely without power. A strike was also recorded on one of the generating facilities in Donetsk region. Emergency restoration works are ongoing wherever the security situation allows,” said the Ministry of Energy.

The deputy minister noted that over the past week, there were more than 100 cases of damage to electrical networks due to hostilities, and in 20 cases, Russian occupiers deliberately targeted energy infrastructure.

“Long-term power outages remain for consumers in frontline and border regions. The situation there is the most difficult, as restoring electricity is complicated by constant shelling,” added the Ministry of Energy.

Additionally, a Russian drone strike on a private clinic in Kyiv resulted in one man killed and three people injured. Authorities are documenting the aftermath of the attack.

On the night of 5 January, Russian forces carried out a massive air attack on Ukraine, using ballistic missiles and a large number of strike drones.
