Russian targets were struck by drones, with two facilities hit simultaneously—the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery and the Gorky Oil Terminal
On the night of April 23, 2026, Russian fuel infrastructure came under a large-scale drone attack in the Samara and Nizhny Novgorod regions.
The strategically important Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery and the Gorky oil pumping station were targeted.
Local authorities and monitoring channels confirm serious incidents at facilities responsible for the logistics and processing of petroleum products.
In addition to the refineries, a fire broke out at the Novokuybyshevsk Petrochemical Complex, indicating the comprehensive nature of the nighttime operation.
The Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery is one of the oldest and largest enterprises in the Volga region and is part of the Rosneft corporation.
Launched back in 1951, the plant specializes in the production of fuel for jet engines, rockets, and aviation.
Currently, the plant’s capacity allows it to process 8 to 9 million tons of raw materials per year.
The refinery produces a full range of fuels for road and marine transport, as well as lubricant components, bitumen, and petrochemical products.
The Gorky oil pumping station in the Nizhny Novgorod region serves as a key hub in the Transneft – Upper Volga system.
It ensures the operation of trunk pipelines, in particular the strategic Surgut–Gorky–Polotsk route.
The facility has one of the largest tank farms in Russia and serves as the main station for domestic routes.
The bulk of the oil passing through this hub is destined for the Lukoil refinery located in Kstovo.
In addition to attacks on refining facilities, strikes were recorded at the Novokuybyshevsk Petrochemical Complex in the Samara region.
According to OSINT sources, a massive fire broke out at the facility following the explosions, which local emergency services attempted to extinguish.
Air defense forces neutralized 189 out of 215 Russian drones during a massive attack
In the Odesa region, port facilities were damaged as a result of a massive attack by Russian strike drones on the night of April 22.
The day before, Russian drones attacked an agricultural enterprise in the Chernihiv region. Equipment and buildings were damaged. No one was injured, and the fire was quickly extinguished.
Shelling of the Kherson region: 40 settlements were hit, resulting in one death and 25 injuries.
Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that in March, the Russian army suffered its heaviest losses since the start of the full-scale war.
