Russia presses on Lyman in freezing weather, paying a heavy price in losses

Russian forces are attempting to exploit worsening weather conditions to advance on the Lyman axis, hoping that freezing temperatures will disrupt the operation of Ukrainian drones. However, these efforts are proving extremely costly. According to Ukrainian soldiers, Russian losses in this sector are eight times higher than those of the Defence Forces. This was stated on air by Danylo Polozhukhno, head of the command post of the KRAKEN 1654 unit.

According to Polozhukhno, the cold does affect drone operations, but nowhere near to the extent the enemy expects. “Of course, sub-zero temperatures affect drones — they may remain airborne for shorter periods and conduct slightly less surveillance. But we see the enemy advancing, and he is being effectively destroyed,” the serviceman noted.

Polozhukhno stressed that the enemy’s attempts to push forward are resulting in catastrophic losses. “The enemy’s losses are currently eight times higher than those of the Defence Forces. So their tactics are not very effective,” he emphasised.

He also pointed out that Russian command constantly pressures its units by setting deadlines for completing objectives, but these are repeatedly missed. “The enemy constantly tries to impose deadlines on its units, but each time they end up being postponed,” Polozhukhno added.

According to him, the main staging point from which Russian forces launch assaults on Ukrainian positions remains Kreminna. From there, the enemy is attempting to break through towards the Serebrianskyi Forest. “The enemy is trying to move through the forested area to get closer to the settlement of Yampil,” the fighter said.

In addition, Russian units are attempting to bypass Yampil from the flanks and operate in small groups. “Individual groups even try to reach the outskirts of the town of Lyman. But there they are either successfully destroyed or taken prisoner,” Polozhukhno reported.

Despite constant offensive attempts, the situation on the Lyman axis remains under the control of the Defence Forces of Ukraine. Russian attacks are failing to achieve the desired results, and their reliance on weather conditions is not paying off.
