The Russian Federation cynically justified the “Oreshnik” strike on Lviv with a fake claim about a “Putin residence”
The Russian Federation has officially acknowledged the launch of a ballistic missile at Lviv on the night of 9 January. Russian officials referred to fake information about an alleged “attack on the residence” of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, attempting in this way to justify yet another terrorist attack against Ukraine.
This was stated by the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
In particular, the Russian side publicly admitted that “in response” to the so-called “attack on the residence” of the dictator, a terrorist act against Ukraine’s civilian population was carried out — specifically, a missile from the “Oreshnik” system was launched and an attack with strike drones was conducted.
As in previous cases following such attacks, the Russian Federation traditionally claimed that “the objectives of the strike were achieved”. According to the Russian ministry’s version, supposedly fictional “facilities for the production of unmanned aerial vehicles”, invented by the occupiers, were hit.
At the same time, despite spreading lies about “military targets”, the occupiers themselves effectively admitted that the main target of the attack was energy infrastructure. In the statement of the Russian agency, a separate paragraph is devoted to this, accompanied by new threats to carry out further terrorist attacks against Ukraine.
Let us recall that on 8 January, Kryvyi Rih came under a ballistic missile strike by the Russian army: a 77-year-old woman was killed, and more than twenty people were injured, including six children. The missiles hit multi-storey residential buildings and infrastructure facilities; damage and destruction are ongoing.
