Russia struck railway infrastructure in Volyn near the border with Poland
On the night of September 15, Russian troops struck railway infrastructure in the Volyn region, near the state border with Poland. A diesel locomotive that was on the tracks was hit during the attack.
As a result of the attack, the locomotive was damaged and caught fire.
Rescue workers quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.
Oleksandr Shevchenko, deputy director of Ukrzaliznytsia for passenger transportation, said that at the time of the strike, the damaged diesel locomotive was standing on the tracks and was not attached to any train.
According to him, the locomotive crew was unharmed.
Shevchenko noted that casualties were avoided because the entire locomotive crew had been evacuated to a safe location before the shelling began.
Experts are currently investigating the circumstances of the Russian strike and assessing the extent of damage to Volyn’s railway infrastructure.
Preliminary reports indicate that the diesel locomotive, which was on the tracks near the border with Poland, sustained the most damage.
