Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with an Iskander-M missile and 95 drones; air defence shot down most targets
On the night of 7 January, Russian forces carried out a massive aerial attack on Ukraine, using a ballistic Iskander-M missile and 95 attack drones launched from various directions. Air defence forces destroyed the vast majority of enemy targets.
This was reported on Telegram by the Ukrainian Air Force.
According to the military, from 18:00 on 6 January until the morning of 7 January, the enemy attacked Ukraine with one Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from the Taganrog area (Russia), as well as 95 attack drones of the Shahed and Gerbera types and other UAVs. Drone launches were carried out from the directions of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Oryol (Russia), Hvardiiske in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as Donetsk in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. About 60 of the drones were Shahed-type.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units and unmanned systems, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
According to preliminary data, as of 07:30, air defence forces had shot down or suppressed one ballistic missile and 81 enemy UAVs of the Shahed and Gerbera types and other drones in the north, centre and east of the country.
At the same time, hits by 14 attack drones were recorded at eight locations, as well as the fall of debris from downed UAVs at five locations.
The Ukrainian Air Force warned that the threat remains.
