Russia is attacking western Ukraine and moving drones closer to the EU: ISW has warned of this trend

Russian military strikes on border crossings in western Ukraine, drone flights over Moldova and Romania, and the evacuation of people in Poland may be linked. The ISW believes that these events are not a coincidence but may indicate a unified strategy by the Kremlin.

On the night of September 24, during a combined air strike by Russia, the Chernivtsi region came under attack. Four Russian drones flew over Bukovina and targeted border crossings with Moldova and Romania. Three of them were shot down by Ukrainian air defense forces, while another continued on toward the Romanian county of Suceava.

At the same time, Russian drones violated the airspace of neighboring countries.

In Moldova, a “Gerbera”-type drone crashed in the town of Cernita. In Romania, an unidentified aircraft remained in the country’s airspace for 4 minutes and crashed near Solca—geolocation data confirmed that it was also a Russian-made “Gerbera.”

In Poland, due to Russian attacks near the Ukrainian-Polish border, personnel and citizens were preemptively evacuated for 30 minutes from the “Zosin” and “Dorohusk” border crossing points.

ISW analysts emphasize that both deliberate and “accidental” violations of the airspace of Moldova and NATO countries represent a deliberate attempt by the Kremlin to normalize border violations by making them increasingly frequent. According to experts, Russia’s military actions against Europe may intensify significantly in the near future.

This is reported with reference to a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russia is preparing strikes against Southern Europe using drones from its shadow fleet.

A Russian helicopter remained in Polish airspace for 42 seconds; Turkey, for its part, shot down a Russian bomber in 17 seconds.

Two airports in Poland were closed again due to a Russian attack.
