Russia attacked Odesa with drones and missiles, destroying buildings
On the night of September 2, Russia launched a massive drone and missile strike on Odesa. The attack damaged infrastructure and destroyed residential buildings; preliminary reports indicate damage in several districts of the city.
The air raid alert in the Odesa region lasted several hours and gradually expanded. Initially, a warning about the threat of attack drones was issued in the Odesa district; later, the alert was declared in the Berezivka, Podil, and Rozdilna districts, and eventually throughout the entire region. This was stated by Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.
According to monitoring Telegram channels and the Air Force, which track the air situation, the attack on Odesa and the Odesa region was a combined operation. A group of strike drones was detected coming from the Black Sea toward the city, as well as “parcel-type” missiles launched from the Kinburn Spit area. There was also mention of a potential missile threat from Crimea—specifically, the threat of “Zircon” and “Onyx” cruise missiles being used, as well as the detection of tactical aircraft taking off over the occupied peninsula, which could have indicated preparations to launch guided bombs at the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.
Throughout the night, several flights of drones and missiles heading directly toward Odesa were detected, as well as the use of guided bombs. Subsequently, a series of explosions rang out in the city.
Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, confirmed damage to infrastructure and preliminarily reported the destruction of residential buildings. The exact extent of the damage, as well as information on possible casualties, is currently being determined.
Preliminary reports indicate that three people, including one child, were injured as a result of the enemy attack on Odesa. Details regarding the condition of the victims are being clarified.
Local authorities have urged residents of Odesa and the region to remain in shelters until the air raid alert ends and to ensure their own safety.
In Kyiv and several regions, an air raid alert was issued on the evening of September 1 at 6:24 p.m. due to the threat of Russian UAVs. The Ukrainian Air Force urged citizens to immediately proceed to shelters or follow the “two-walls” rule if safe premises are not accessible.
Ukraine is conducting combat tests of at least four jet interceptors designed to counter Russian jet drones.
