Russia attacks Ukraine with 154 drones, most shot down by air defences
On the night of 21 March, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine using 154 strike drones from five directions.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram.
According to the military, the attack lasted from 6 p.m. on 20 March until the morning of 21 March. Russia used Shahed-type drones, as well as “Gerbera”, “Italmas”, and other UAVs launched from the directions of Oryol, Kursk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Hvardiiske in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Around 90 of the launched drones were Shaheds.
“The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still in the airspace. Please follow safety rules,” the Air Force warned.
Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defence Forces were involved in repelling the attack.
As of 08:30 a.m., air defences had shot down or suppressed 148 enemy drones.
Hits by five strike drones were recorded at four locations, while debris from downed drones fell in seven locations.
On the morning of 21 March, Chernihiv was left without electricity due to Russian strikes on the region’s energy infrastructure.
During the night, Russian forces also attacked the Mykolaiv region with strike drones, damaging energy infrastructure.
On the morning of 21 March, Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones. As a result of the strike, two civilians were killed and two children were injured.
In Sloviansk, Russian forces carried out a powerful air strike on residential areas of the city. The attack involved FAB-250 high-explosive bombs equipped with planning and guidance modules, causing significant destruction to buildings and damage to private homes.
