Russia increases artillery shell production using European equipment
Despite unprecedented sanctions pressure, Russia has not only overcome the “shell shortage” of 2023 but also significantly ramped up artillery ammunition production in 2024–2025.
According to Dallas, the Kremlin has relied on domestic resources due to the low quality and compatibility issues of shells received from North Korea and Iran.
The expansion has covered all stages of production, from chemical manufacturing of propellants to high-precision casing processing. This has allowed the aggressor to substantially increase ammunition deliveries to the front in 2026.
Analytical data indicate that the largest growth has been in the mortar segment, suggesting that Russia is preparing for prolonged infantry assaults.
It should be noted that Russia produces shells several times faster and cheaper than Western countries. Authorities have also announced the creation of a 30mm anti-drone shell.
