Russia struck the Kherson Thermal Power Plant with an aerial bomb
Russian troops attacked the Kherson Combined Heat and Power Plant—the city’s main source of heat—with a guided aerial bomb, causing severe damage. Naftogaz noted that experts will be able to assess the full extent of the damage once the security situation stabilizes.

“Russian troops attacked the Kherson Thermal Power Plant with a guided aerial bomb. As a result of the attack, the city’s main source of heat sustained serious damage,” the statement reads.
The full extent of the damage can be assessed as soon as security conditions permit.
Naftogaz emphasized that the Kherson Thermal Power Plant is an exclusively civilian facility, whose primary purpose is to supply heat to the city’s residents. At the same time, the plant has been subjected to dozens of Russian attacks throughout 2026.
Over the past 24 hours, on August 25, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv and 17 other settlements in the region with missiles and drones, injuring 23 people, including two girls. The highest number of casualties was in Izyum, where 14 people were injured, including children aged 11 and 16.
On the morning of August 26, Russian troops carried out an airstrike on Sloviansk in the Donetsk region; explosions were heard in the central part of the city. According to preliminary reports, the occupiers may have used guided bombs; information on casualties is being verified.
In the Chernihiv region and in Slavutych, 30,000 customers were left without power following an attack by the Russian Federation.
As a reminder, on August 23, Russian forces attacked a train station in the Kharkiv region with a drone while a passenger train evacuating people was stopped. Two women were killed in the strike, and five others were injured.
On August 23, Russian terrorist forces attacked Ukraine’s railway infrastructure five times. One person was killed and four others were injured as a result of the strikes.
On August 23, Russian forces attacked the locomotive of passenger train No. 147, traveling from Zhytomyr to Odesa, with a jet-powered drone. The train was stopped and passengers evacuated before the strike, so neither passengers nor railway workers were harmed.
