Russia has installed a depleted uranium missile on Geran

The Security Service of Ukraine has detected elevated radiation levels on the debris of a rocket that Russian forces mounted on a modified "Geran-2" attack drone during an attack on the Chernihiv region on the night of April 7.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

The dangerous discovery was made during a radiation survey conducted in the immediate vicinity of the crash site of the enemy drone.

Specialized services promptly took measures to contain the threat and secure the surrounding area.

According to the SBU, the fragments are from a Russian R-60 air-to-air missile, which were found near the village of Kamka in the Chernihiv region.

Law enforcement officials have determined that Russian troops use such missiles during massive attacks to target Ukrainian aircraft and helicopters that intercept enemy UAVs.

Modifying drones with such weapons indicates the enemy’s attempts to increase the effectiveness of its airstrikes.

Measurements at the crash site showed significant deviations from permissible safety standards, which are critical for human health.

Specialists documented radiation levels that pose a direct threat to people who may have been near the emergency zone.

“During radiation reconnaissance in the immediate vicinity of the wreckage of an enemy drone carrying a missile, a gamma radiation level of 12 μSv/h was recorded, which significantly exceeds the natural radiation background and poses a threat to human health,” the statement reads.

The SBU, together with units of the State Emergency Service and the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has already neutralized the warhead and transported it to a radioactive waste storage facility.

Analyses revealed that the warhead contained depleted uranium components—Uranium-235 and Uranium-238. The SBU is conducting a pre-trial investigation into this matter under the article on war crimes.
