Russia struck Zaporizhstal for the third time this month

On September 2, Russian troops launched a missile strike on the Zaporizhstal steel mill. Four employees of the plant were injured in the attack.

This is stated in a report on the company’s website.

“On the night of September 12, Russia attacked Zaporizhstal with ballistic missiles for the third time in the last month. Four missiles struck the plant’s production site, which has yet to resume production following previous strikes on August 11 and 27. Four employees were injured,” the company stated.

Metinvest Group Chief Operating Officer Oleksandr Myronenko emphasized that Zaporizhstal produced pig iron and steel for civilian use. The plant did not produce anything for military purposes and did not house anything on its premises that could make it a military target. Following the strikes on August 11 and 27, the plant has still not resumed production. And even that did not stop the new attack.”

“The scale of the destruction is growing with every strike. It is currently impossible to assess it definitively, but we preliminarily classify the damage as critical,” Mironenko stated.

As a result of the attack, main and auxiliary equipment in the blast furnace and open-hearth shops, the plant’s power system and networks, and its logistics infrastructure were damaged.

Since production processes at the plant had been suspended following previous attacks, there is no risk of a man-made accident, Zaporizhstal emphasized.

The number of personnel on the plant’s premises was significantly limited.

One of the injured, after receiving first aid and being examined by medical personnel on the plant premises, refused hospitalization and remained to help deal with the aftermath of the strike.

Three other employees were hospitalized with moderate injuries after receiving first aid.

Work is ongoing at the plant to address the aftermath of the strike and inspect damaged facilities, which is necessary to determine the nature and extent of the damage.
