Russia attacks Ukraine’s railway infrastructure again, causing train delays

In the morning, Russian forces once again struck Ukraine’s railway infrastructure. As a result of the damage, some trains are operating with delays. Ukrzaliznytsia reported that passenger transfers are being arranged, while emergency repair crews are working to restore the damaged sections of track.

This was announced by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Management Board of Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to Pertsovskyi, Russian forces carried out another attack on railway facilities in the early hours of the day. As a result, railway workers are entering the new week in a state of maximum mobilisation, focusing on repairs and ensuring passenger transportation.

“Early this morning, there was another series of strikes on railway infrastructure. We are starting this week focused and organised, once again restoring, transporting, and evacuating,” he said.

Despite the shelling and difficult weather conditions, train services continue to operate:

  • Four trains arrived in Kyiv during the curfew
  • One train each arrived in Khmelnytskyi, Dnipro, and Lviv

In all cases, Ukrzaliznytsia coordinated with local authorities: passengers were met by bus transfers, and movement within cities was permitted using train tickets. One Intercity train, while travelling to the depot, even served as a temporary “city express” to Kyiv’s left bank, making all necessary stops for passengers.

For passengers waiting for departures, rest areas at railway stations have been made free of charge. Ukrzaliznytsia has also introduced additional notifications regarding:

  • Expected delays
  • Bus transfers
  • International connections

Some trains continue to operate via detour routes, so further delays remain possible.

“The entire railway team is doing everything possible to ensure that every journey is, above all, safe, warm, and carried out with care,” Pertsovskyi emphasised.

It is worth recalling that Russian Railways has been losing its investment attractiveness for the third consecutive year.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrzaliznytsia had warned Kyiv of possible cancellations of rail connections due to outstanding debts.
