Russian troops have been trying for about a week to “probe” Ukrainian defenses in the Vovchanska community in the Kharkiv region. Andriy Demchenko reported this while discussing the enemy’s actions in this area.
Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, made these remarks during a television appearance while answering questions about the Russians’ targeted activities in the Kharkiv region and the purpose behind the intensification of these actions.
“For quite some time now, the enemy has been attempting to expand its zone of control within the Vovchanska community, launching attacks specifically from Russian territory toward our border. In general, the enemy has also recently begun to make its presence felt within the Vilkhuvatska community. For about a week now, the enemy has been testing our defenses within the Vovchanska community, attempting to attack the positions of Ukrainian defenders, including units of the State Border Guard Service in our defense zones,” Demchenko said.
He noted that the enemy is suffering heavy losses in the process.
“Given these actions we’re seeing from Russia, I don’t rule out that the enemy still expects to make significant advances there. At the same time, for quite some time now—even since the beginning of this year—we have observed the enemy becoming active within the Vovchanska community, particularly in the direction of the village of Digtyarne. But it has not been able to achieve significant success during all this time,” the spokesperson stated.
Demchenko explained that the enemy is attacking and has the upper hand over Ukrainian forces, and that a large number of shelling attacks precede assaults by infantry groups, as the enemy attempts to destroy the positions held by Ukrainian defenders.
“The enemy is trying to infiltrate, but it is suffering heavy losses, both in terms of casualties and the wounded. A large number of occupiers are being taken prisoner. And our soldiers are doing everything possible to strike at both the logistics and the weapons the enemy uses to shell our territory while they’re still on Russian soil,” he noted, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
