The Russian army lost more than 1,300 soldiers in the past 24 hours
Over the past day, the Russian army lost another 1,310 troops in the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian forces also destroyed one Russian aircraft, 26 armored combat vehicles, 69 artillery systems, and nearly 2,000 drones.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia has lost approximately 1,476,580 soldiers since the start of the full-scale invasion. This covers the period from February 24, 2022, to August 23, 2026. In the last 24 hours alone, the Russian army lost another 1,310 troops. In addition, Ukrainian forces destroyed or disabled a significant amount of Russian military equipment.
Russian Army Casualties
As of August 23, the General Staff reports the following total losses for the Russian Federation:
- tanks – 12,292;
- armored combat vehicles – 25,202, an increase of 26 over the past day;
- artillery systems – 48,451, an increase of 69 over the past 24 hours;
- multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) – 2,054;
- air defense systems – 1,585, up 1 in the past 24 hours;
- aircraft – 440, +1 over the past 24 hours;
- helicopters – 354;
- ground-based robotic systems – 2,352, up 8 in the past 24 hours;
- operational-tactical UAVs – 476,566, +1,925 in the past 24 hours;
- cruise missiles – 5,052, +3 over the past day;
- ships and boats – 35;
- submarines – 2;
- Vehicles and tanker trucks – 138,219, an increase of 415 over the past day;
- special equipment – 4,569, an increase of 4 over the past day.
Separately, Russian losses of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have increased significantly over the past day. According to the General Staff, the Ukrainian military destroyed or damaged 1,925 operational-tactical-level UAVs. The loss of a Russian aircraft was also recorded. The total number of Russian aircraft destroyed since the start of the full-scale war, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, has reached 440.
Another 415 Russian vehicles and fuel tankers have been added to the overall casualty statistics. The General Staff emphasizes that the figures provided are preliminary. Data on Russian military losses are being refined. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
Over the past 24 hours, on August 22, there were 254 combat engagements between Ukrainian and Russian forces on the front lines. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk sectors.
