Roskomnadzor tightens restrictions on bypassing mobile internet blocks
Roskomnadzor has banned internet providers from supplying customers with IP addresses used to access resources included on “whitelists” during mobile internet shutdowns.
This decision effectively eliminates one of the last legal ways to bypass restrictions in mobile networks.
According to the outlet Kod Durova, some VPN services have lost access to servers that previously allowed them to function even when mobile internet was switched off.
It is believed that Roskomnadzor has begun requiring cloud service providers to fully separate IP address pools — those used for “whitelists” can no longer be shared with other clients.
These changes have already led to widespread disruptions in the operation of VPN applications on smartphones.
Experts note that the “whitelist” loophole had existed for a long time, and it was clear that it would eventually be closed.
A representative of the Na Svyazi project said that compliance with the new requirements is difficult to track, as there is no public list of servers that VPN services used to bypass restrictions.
However, the consequences are already being felt by users, who are now unable to access important resources during periods of blocking.
Earlier, it was reported that Roskomnadzor plans to develop artificial intelligence to block VPN services at a cost of 2.3 billion roubles.
Roskomnadzor has also officially blocked the Roblox platform in Russia.
