AI will not replace sappers anytime soon

Artificial intelligence is already helping sappers work faster, but it will not be able to fully replace them in the near future. The final decision and verification of cleared areas still remain the responsibility of humans. This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by Volodymyr Baida, director of the Humanitarian Demining Center.

According to him, even with modern technology, demining is impossible without human involvement. “Currently, we clearly understand that until a person has passed through a particular area, it is impossible to speak of its demining,” he explained.

At the same time, artificial intelligence is already significantly changing the workflow itself. Systems can quickly process large amounts of data and suggest which areas should be checked first. “In Ukraine, we can already fully see through the system which soils, which territories, which sites need to be demined more urgently. This is exactly where artificial intelligence works,” Baida noted.

Previously, such analysis could take months or even years. Now it takes just a few seconds. This allows sappers to plan their work faster and focus on the most dangerous areas. However, despite technological advances, humans remain key in this process. Demining is not only about data, but also about responsibility and safety, where mistakes are unacceptable.

The massive UAV attack covered 10 regions of Russia, with numerous hits recorded.

It is worth recalling that in occupied Alchevsk, drones attacked a metallurgical plant.

Drones also attacked the chemical plant “KuibyshevAzot” in Tolyatti, where smoke was seen rising above the facility.
