At a forum in Antalya, Sibiga raised the issue of Russia recruiting mercenaries from Africa

Ukraine has launched an active diplomatic effort with African countries to stop the recruitment of their citizens into the ranks of the Russian occupation army.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha made this statement in an interview with Ukrinform following his participation in the 5th Antalya Diplomatic Forum.

This issue was one of the key topics during bilateral meetings held by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga at the 5th Antalya Diplomatic Forum.

The Foreign Minister noted that representatives of African states have expressed outrage over the use of their compatriots in the war against Ukraine.

Currently, the parties are jointly seeking mechanisms that will effectively halt this process at the legislative and security levels.

“I raised the issue of the Russians recruiting African mercenaries with each of my African colleagues. They are outraged. We are looking for ways to stop this mercenary activity,” Andriy Sybiga said in an interview with Ukrinform.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia is actively using foreigners to carry out so-called “human wave attacks,” attempting to compensate for catastrophic personnel losses.

Citizens of various African countries are increasingly falling victim to Russian propaganda and recruitment schemes.

“We see that, suffering huge losses on the front lines, Russia is trying to compensate for this through recruitment. That is why this was one of the topics of my discussions with colleagues from the African continent,” the minister emphasized.

In addition to security issues, Andriy Sybiga held more than ten meetings dedicated to economic cooperation.

The agricultural sector, the IT sector, medicine, and education have been identified as priority areas. Ukraine seeks to open new markets for its products and ensure access to critical resources.

African partners expressed their gratitude to Ukraine for its efforts to protect their citizens from being drawn into criminal aggression.

Mutually beneficial economic cooperation should serve as an alternative to Russia’s destructive influence in the region.
