Sibiga stated that Russia had attempted to derail the peace process
Through its massive attacks on Ukraine, Russia is attempting to influence not only the situation on the front lines but also the course of peace efforts. This was stated by Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.
According to him, the Russian strikes are a sign of escalation and an attempt to influence public sentiment in Ukraine. The foreign minister cited the destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on the eve of the heating season as another goal of the attacks.
“This is also a slap in the face to global peace efforts and, of course, an attempt to derail this process,” Sibiga said during a briefing.
Separately, the minister commented on the morning attack on Kyiv on September 4, during which a strike was reported in the area of Zhuliany Airport. According to media reports, an aircraft on the airport grounds may have been hit as a result of the attack.
The strike occurred amid reports of a possible visit to Kyiv by representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. At the same time, Sibiga did not assert that the attack on Zhuliany was directly linked to the possible visit by the American delegation.
The minister emphasized that Ukraine continues to engage in active dialogue with the U.S. and expects further progress in the peace process. According to him, the current Russian escalation is taking place precisely against the backdrop of international efforts to end the war.
