Sochi and Makhachkala were attacked by drones; fires broke out at the port
On the night of September 9–10, the Russian cities of Sochi and Makhachkala came under massive drone attacks. As a result of the strikes, reports emerged of fires, air defense systems in action, and damage to infrastructure in the cities.
The first reports of the attack on Sochi began to surface on the evening of September 9, around 9:50 p.m.
Videos showing fires and Russian air defense systems in action began circulating on social media.
Local Telegram channels claimed that the city was attacked not only by drones but also by unmanned boats. The exact extent of the damage was unknown at that time.
Meanwhile, the Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters stated that a fire had broken out on the Sochi waterfront as a result of an attack by unmanned boats.

The attack occurred during a concert by Russian singer Tatyana Bulanova at the “Festivalny” Concert Hall.

Due to the threat posed by drones, the performance had to be cut short.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bulanova has openly supported Russian aggression.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, also noted that a significant number of members of the Russian elite were in Sochi at the time.
According to him, the events of that night demonstrate once again that the Russian authorities are unable to guarantee the safety of even the country’s privileged residents.
Around 4:00 a.m., Makhachkala—the capital of Dagestan—was hit by a drone attack.

Russian social media users reported explosions and smoke in the port area, as well as air defense activity near the Avar Theater.

In the morning, the head of Dagestan stated that the attack had damaged port infrastructure and the theater.
He also confirmed that a fire broke out in the port area.

Separately, satellite data from NASA’s FIRMS service drew attention last night, as it detected a fire in the Kerch area.
OSINT sources suggest that this may have been a fire on a vessel linked to the Russian “shadow fleet.”
However, this information has not yet been independently confirmed, so the exact circumstances of the incident require further verification.
Thus, overnight, drone attacks targeted several strategically important regions of Russia—from the Black Sea coast to Dagestan.

Earlier, units of the Deep Strike force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Special Operations Forces carried out the deepest strike into Russian territory since the start of the war, attacking the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky plants in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug with drones.
In Novy Urengoy, Russia, authorities reported damage to a gas condensate processing plant. Following this, the Ukrainian company Fire Point published a cryptic message about drones that allegedly traveled over 3,300 km and struck the target.
