Trehubov reports up to 50 Russian troops remain encircled in Kupiansk
Ukrainian defenders have strengthened control over Kupiansk in Kharkiv region, where up to around 50 Russian occupiers remain encircled.
Victor Trehubov, head of communications for the Joint Forces, said the enemy is hiding near the hospital north of the city centre.
The number of occupiers is rapidly declining due to daily losses from artillery strikes and drone attacks.
Trehubov specified: “Up to 50, slightly north of the centre, in the hospital area.” The Russians have no chance of breaking out — attempts to do so failed back in autumn.
Currently, the Ukrainian forces are methodically clearing enemy positions, while avoiding risks to civilians.
The enemy lost logistical support in November, turning any movement into a true encirclement. Previously, the city held 100 to 200 occupiers, but daily losses have halved that number.
Drones allow Ukrainian forces to accurately locate small groups of 3–5 soldiers and strike them, sometimes eliminating up to five per day.
For context, Ukrainian forces secretly encircled Kupiansk while Putin celebrated its supposed “capture.” The troops have now regained positions in the city.
