One person was killed in Kherson as a result of artillery fire
In Kherson, Russian artillery fire struck the city center, killing one man and injuring two others. All the victims were on the street at the time of the attack. The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported this on Telegram.
The Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office provided details of the attack, which occurred on May 16, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m. According to the investigation, all the victims were on the street when artillery fire was opened on the city. “According to the investigation, on May 16, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Russian military forces carried out an artillery attack on the central part of Kherson. A man was killed as a result of the attack. Currently, there are reports of two other civilians—a man and a woman—who sustained injuries of varying severity,” the prosecutor’s office stated in its report.
The wounded were promptly taken to the hospital, where they are receiving the necessary medical care. Following the shelling, law enforcement officials launched a pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional homicide, in accordance with Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Investigators are establishing all the circumstances of the attack and the type of weaponry used to strike the city’s civilian area.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops carried out 46 strikes on the Chernihiv region, resulting in injuries to a civilian woman.
Since Friday evening, the Russian army has carried out more than 20 attacks on three districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in at least one casualty.
On May 15, a Russian drone attacked the Hryhorii Skovoroda National Literary and Memorial Museum in the Kharkiv region. The strike damaged the protective shelter of the site, which is under UNESCO protection.
Russian troops struck a facility belonging to one of the structural units of Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo in the Zaporizhzhia district. The attack damaged service vehicles.
