In Crimea, Ukrainian drones set fire to two substations and the Gvardeyskoye airfield
On the night of July 18, fires broke out at two energy facilities located on the Kerch Peninsula in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. A fire also broke out at the “Gvardeyskoye” military airfield near Simferopol.
According to monitoring reports, the fire engulfed the 220/35/10 kV “NS-3” substation—a key facility in the power grid that houses two power transformers with capacities of 25 and 20 MVA. The substation is connected by four 220-kV power lines, including those that supply Feodosia and Kazantip. The second target was the 110/35/10 kV “Lenino” substation—also a major hub on which the power supply for a significant portion of the eastern part of the peninsula depends.
This was reported by the monitoring group “Crimean Wind.”
It should be noted that this is not the first attack on Crimea’s energy infrastructure in the past month: earlier, drones attacked the “Bakhchysarai” and “Zimine” substations, leaving entire districts in the western part of the peninsula temporarily without power.
As a reminder, a video recorded by a local resident at one of the chain supermarkets in occupied Crimea was shared on social media, showing that most goods were missing from the shelves.
The Russian Red Cross has begun building up additional stockpiles of humanitarian aid for the temporarily occupied Crimea and Sevastopol following the declaration of a state of emergency on the peninsula.
On the temporarily occupied Crimean Peninsula, local residents report ongoing power outages, fuel shortages, rising prices, and problems with the functioning of social infrastructure.
