Critical situation for Russian forces in Kupiansk – Trehubov

Russian command has ordered its troops to capture Kupiansk at any cost, but the occupiers are unable to accomplish this task. According to Viktor Trehubov, head of the Communications Department of the Joint Forces Group, clearing operations are ongoing in the city, and the situation for Russian units remains critical.

Trehubov told a live broadcast, as reported by Ukrinform, that the Russians are sending additional forces to Kupiansk and regrouping units in the area, yet the situation remains direly critical for them.

“For them, the situation in Kupiansk is quite critical. On one hand, they are ordered to take the city at any cost, but on the other hand, there are effectively two separate combat zones within Kupiansk: one north of the city and the other on the eastern bank of the Oskil River. In both areas, they are unsuccessful,” Trehubov explained.

He added that Russian troops have intensified attacks on the eastern bank of the Oskil, but with no results.

“They are even a bit more aggressive in these attacks. In the north, there were constant attempts to infiltrate the city itself, to somehow support the few units still present there, but again – unsuccessfully,” Trehubov said.

He recalled that the Russians recently tried to use a pipe to aid their advance.

“They tried to use infrastructure, local terrain features, and so on. Again, it didn’t work. The area is constantly monitored 24/7, and achieving any significant success there is impossible,” the spokesperson explained.

When asked how many Russian troops remain in Kupiansk, Trehubov replied that there are “less than a hundred”, describing it as dozens. He noted that daily losses are about four to five troops, so the remaining forces are now just tens, and a critical point for them is expected soon.
