Russia has announced that it is preparing a new prisoner exchange with Ukraine
Russia has announced that it is preparing a new exchange of prisoners of war and civilians with Ukraine, which may take place in the near future.
Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova noted that as part of the upcoming process, she plans to meet personally with Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
“Another face-to-face meeting [with Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets] will take place in the near future. Our meeting will occur during the exchange of prisoners of war and civilians,” Lantratova said.
The Russian side has not yet disclosed any other details—regarding the date, number of participants, or format of the possible exchange.
At the same time, Ukraine has not yet confirmed that it is preparing for a new exchange.
As a reminder, on June 5, Ukraine and Russia carried out another prisoner exchange, during which 185 Ukrainian defenders and one civilian returned home. Among those released were defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, as well as soldiers from various sectors of the front.
This is according to reports in the Russian media.
Earlier, Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada’s Human Rights Commissioner, commented on preparations for a “1,000 for 1,000” exchange. According to him, technical work is currently underway at the level of the negotiating teams, which are working out the details of the future process.
Lubinec presented a draft report on Russia’s war crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war.
