Russians are unable to establish a security zone in the Sumy region — a military official

Russians are unable to establish a security zone in the Sumy region — a military official

The Russian occupation forces have no real ability to establish a so-called “security zone” in the border areas of Sumy Oblast.

Enemy attempts to launch mechanized assaults in this direction have completely failed thanks to the effective actions of Ukrainian defenders.

Serhiy Dibrov, head of the communications department of the 21st Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke about the current situation along the border.

Commenting on the invaders’ plans to create a buffer zone on Ukrainian territory, the military official emphasized the Russian Federation’s army’s absolute inability to carry out this plan.

The Russians are striving to establish control over the border area, but are facing fierce resistance and suffering losses.

A recent attempt by armored vehicles to break through ended in a complete rout for the enemy even before they reached the defensive lines.

“About a month ago, they tried to attack us, to carry out a mechanized assault. They assembled as many as three armored vehicles and provided cover with a single self-propelled gun. They even advanced 300 meters into Ukrainian territory and abandoned all their equipment there. And several people were left behind as well,” Dibrov said.

Ukrainian defense forces successfully eliminated the assault group and destroyed all of the enemy’s deployed assets. Among the equipment left behind by the invaders, Ukrainian soldiers identified infantry fighting vehicles and even motorcycles.

This incident clearly demonstrated that classic frontal attacks involving heavy weaponry in the Sumy direction yield no results for the occupiers.

Due to regular failures, the Russian military command is forced to rapidly change its tactics along the border. Since armored vehicles are quickly destroyed by artillery and drones, the enemy is relying on covert infantry movements.

The militants are trying to operate as inconspicuously as possible, splitting into the smallest possible units to infiltrate forested areas.

“That is why they continue to use infiltration tactics. They are trying to penetrate our territory in very small groups—two people is a typical group now,” he said, adding that the Russians are deploying “disposable” units.

Zelenskyy reported heavy civilian casualties from Russian attacks over the past week

Over the past 24 hours, there were 234 combat engagements between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian troops, with the Russian army’s heaviest pressure recorded in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole sectors.
