Zelenskyy called the strike on Moscow a completely justified response
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially confirmed that Ukrainian drones carried out a massive attack on the Moscow region on the night of May 16. The head of state described the special operation as a completely justified response to the ongoing armed aggression and the daily aerial terror targeting civilian settlements.
He announced this on social media.
Despite the fact that the distance from Ukraine’s state border is over 500 kilometers, and the densest concentration of air defense systems is deployed on the outskirts of the Russian capital, Ukrainian weapons were able to overcome the defensive lines.
The country’s leader expressed official gratitude to the soldiers of the Security Service of Ukraine and other units of the Armed Forces for the high precision demonstrated during the combat mission. He emphasized that Ukrainian-made long-range munitions will continue to strike targets on enemy territory, as defense enterprises are continuously ramping up production of missile and unmanned weapons. Such measures are intended to clearly demonstrate to Russian citizens that their military leadership and state must end the war of aggression they have started.
On the night of May 17, a number of Russian military-industrial complex and energy facilities in Moscow and the Moscow region were struck. Strikes were carried out on an oil depot in Durikino, an oil refinery in Kapotnya, the Angstrom microelectronics plant, and the Raduga Design Bureau, which develops cruise missiles.
On the morning of May 16, Moscow also came under attack by drones, causing airports in the Russian capital to temporarily suspend operations.
The “ATESH” partisan movement claimed responsibility for a sabotage operation in the Moscow region, which disrupted the functioning of elements of the Russian air defense system on the outskirts of the capital.
