Russia reported a drone attack near a military facility in Engels

Russia reported a drone attack on the night of July 25. In the city of Engels in the Saratov region, a fire broke out following reports of a drone threat; it likely started near a military facility. Russian authorities have not officially reported on the cause of the fire or the possible consequences of the attack.

On the night of Sunday, July 25, a drone attack was reported in Russia’s Saratov Oblast. In the city of Engels, local residents reported a fire that may have started on the grounds of a military unit. According to the publication, missile and drone alerts were issued in the region overnight. Afterward, residents of Engels began posting footage of the fire.

An ASTRA OSINT analyst, after reviewing eyewitness videos, speculated that a building on Engels-1 Street was on fire. According to the analyst, a military base may be located in that area. Near this location is the “Engels-2” military airfield, where Russian strategic bombers are based.

What is known about the area of the attack

The “Engels-2” airfield is one of Russia’s key military facilities. It is from there that Russian aircraft regularly carry out strikes on Ukrainian territory. Earlier, on July 16, a Russian Tu-95MS strategic missile-carrying bomber was damaged as a result of an attack on this airfield. This time, Russian officials did not report on the nature of the damage or possible losses following the nighttime incident.

Russia has warned of drone threats in various regions

Russian monitoring channels reported the threat of drone attacks in several regions during the evening and night. In particular, reports of the threat came from the Belgorod, Tambov, Ryazan, and Volgograd regions, as well as from the temporarily occupied Crimea.

Operations at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport were also temporarily restricted in Russia. The restrictions were later lifted. There is currently no official confirmation of what exactly caused the fire in Engels or whether it is linked to a drone attack. This was reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel.

On the night of July 25, Russian forces launched more than 150 aerial targets at Ukraine. Air defense forces destroyed and intercepted one X-59/69 guided air-to-ground missile and 127 drones of various types.

Over the past day, the Russian army lost another 1,330 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. The Ukrainian Defense Forces also destroyed dozens of pieces of enemy equipment, including artillery systems, air defense systems, and drones.
