Ukrainian Armed Forces launch specialised command to counter enemy drones
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have established a separate air defence command for unmanned systems.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi announced this on his Telegram channel.
The move is aimed at strengthening protection of the skies against daily Russian attacks by Shahed and “Heron” drones.
Russian forces regularly target civilian sites and critical infrastructure with drones. In January, Ukrainian air defence systems — mostly domestically produced — achieved record interception results.
The Armed Forces are actively staffing new drone-interceptor divisions and training fresh crews.
“Hundreds of UAV crews have already been assigned to the control of Air Force units,” Syrskyi wrote. “They operate across the first, second, and third defence echelons.”
At the same time, Ukraine is enhancing anti-drone protection at administrative centres in frontline areas, allowing rapid, real-time responses to threats.
Syrskyi also reported an increase in Russian activity on the front and explained why Russia has failed to reinforce its troop numbers there.
