A deserter who fled the Ukrainian Armed Forces coordinated Russia's strikes on Nikopol
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the SBU exposed a Russian agent who was passing information to the enemy to enable artillery and drone strikes on Nikopol. The man was recruited by the Russian intelligence service after he fled a Ukrainian Armed Forces training center before taking the oath of office.
According to the investigation, he tracked the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces bases, particularly Ukrainian air defense positions, photographed them, and marked them on maps. The SBU detained the man and informed him that he is suspected of treason.
Who was working for the enemy?
The targeting was carried out by a local draft dodger recruited by the enemy, who had fled a Ukrainian Armed Forces training center before taking the oath of allegiance.
“While in hiding at his place of residence, the suspect began looking for ‘easy’ money on Telegram channels. In one of the thematic groups, a Russian intelligence officer approached him and offered cooperation.
Promised “quick” money, the agent began tracking the Defense Forces’ bases in a frontline city,” the statement reads.

Targets The occupiers were most interested in the backup command posts and combat positions of the Ukrainian air defense forces, which protect the airspace of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The SBU documented how the man surveyed the area to covertly photograph and mark on Google Maps the sites he believed were being used by Ukrainian defenders.
The Russian agent was exposed at the early stage of his espionage activities and detained on the grounds of a private residence.
At the same time, measures were taken to secure the deployment sites and movement routes of Ukrainian troops.
A cell phone containing evidence of his work for Russian military intelligence was seized from the detainee.
He has now been notified that he is suspected of high treason. The man is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
