Ukraine Wants to Purchase Tens of Thousands of F-16 Missiles to Counter Jet Drones — Bloomberg

Ukraine is seeking to purchase tens of thousands of 20-millimeter rounds for its F-16 fighter jets. According to Bloomberg, the ammunition is intended for use against Russian jet-powered drones.

According to Bloomberg sources, Kyiv is already in talks with several European countries and manufacturers regarding the supply of such ammunition.

These are shells that can be fired from the F-16 fighter jet’s cannon. Bloomberg sources describe this method of interception as one of the most effective and cost-efficient ways to counter the new Russian drones.

They estimate that a single interception could require about 150 rounds. Accordingly, given the current intensity of attacks, Ukraine may need approximately 10,000 such rounds daily.

The demand for such ammunition is rising as stockpiles of missiles for U.S. Patriot systems dwindle. According to Bloomberg, it is now much more difficult to quickly obtain the necessary quantities of missiles for these systems, whereas there is a greater global supply of ammunition for F-16 cannons.

That is why Ukraine views fighter jet shells as one of the more accessible and effective options for countering jet-powered drones, the agency reports.

A drone strike in the Kyiv region caused a fire in several buildings; two people were rescued.

As a reminder, debris from a Russian drone caused a fire in a five-story building in Kyiv.

Following Russia’s nighttime attack on Kyiv, an educational institution was hit.
