Ukraine has repatriated the bodies of 522 deceased citizens as part of a repatriation effort

As a result of the latest repatriation effort, Ukraine was able to recover the remains of 522 deceased individuals

The Russian side officially claims that these bodies belong to Ukrainian citizens, specifically military personnel who died as a result of combat operations. 

Currently, representatives of relevant Ukrainian agencies are preparing for the identification process and conducting DNA testing to identify the deceased defenders.

The return of the bodies was made possible by the large-scale and coordinated joint efforts of a large number of government agencies and departments. 

Staff members of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine participated in the repatriation process. 

Representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other agencies within the Security and Defense Sector.

“As a result of the repatriation efforts, the bodies of 522 deceased individuals have been returned to Ukraine. According to the Russian side, the bodies belong to Ukrainian citizens, specifically military personnel,” the agency officially reported.

Immediately after the bodies are transported, law enforcement agencies and medical experts are brought in to examine them. 

Investigators, in collaboration with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, will conduct all necessary comprehensive forensic medical examinations in the near future. 

The main purpose of these procedures is the accurate identification of the repatriated bodies for subsequent handover to relatives and the organization of a proper burial.
