Ukraine has established bases in Libya to launch attacks on Russian ships

Ukraine may have established a military presence in Libya to launch attacks on Russian ships in the Mediterranean Sea.

This is reported by RFI.

According to the publication, the Ukrainian contingent, which numbers over 200 officers, is allegedly based at three locations, including an airbase in Misrata and the Mellitah area.

It is also claimed that Ukraine has already attacked Russian ships in the Mediterranean twice—the gas carrier Arctic Metagaz and the tanker Qendil.

It is noted that an agreement on the presence of Ukrainian troops in Libya could be signed in October 2025.

Meanwhile, Russia has accused the Libyan government of supporting the Ukrainian side with the involvement of British intelligence agencies.

The Russian gas carrier Arctic Metagaz continues to drift in the Mediterranean Sea without a crew. An attempt to tow the vessel to a port in Libya failed due to difficult weather conditions.

At the time of the incident, the tanker was in the Mediterranean Sea between Malta and Libya. Due to a fire, the crew had to be evacuated, and the gas tanker itself sustained damage and remained adrift. Russia claimed that the vessel may have been attacked by Ukrainian unmanned boats. There is currently no independent confirmation of this information. Russia has again banned gasoline exports following attacks on oil refineries.
