Ukraine strikes Russia’s largest drone and missile battery manufacturer

Late on 4 January, Ukraine carried out a drone strike on Lipetsk region. Debris from one of the drones fell in an industrial area of Yelets, causing a fire.

This was reported by the governor of Lipetsk region, Igor Artamonov.

“By 1 a.m., the fire was contained; preliminarily, no one was injured,” he said, without revealing details about the targeted facility.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, from 20:00 to 23:00 Moscow time, air defence forces “intercepted” 41 Ukrainian drones across eight regions, including four in Lipetsk.

The attack targeted PJSC Energia, Russia’s largest producer of batteries — including those for drones and missiles, as well as aviation and naval batteries. Photos and videos shared by locals show a major fire at the facility. Local reports indicate that one of the military production workshops is burning. The full extent of the damage is not yet known.

For the second day in a row, Ukrainian forces attacked Moscow with dozens of drones. On the evening of 4 January, at least 28 drones were shot down while approaching the city. A red threat level was declared in Moscow and the surrounding region.

On New Year’s Eve, drones struck an oil depot and refinery in Russia, causing fires.

On the morning of 31 December, drones hit the FDKU plant “Temp” of the Russian Reserve in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region.
