Ukraine to increase production of anti‑drone ammunition to 400,000 rounds
The Ministry of Defence plans to sharply increase the production of special anti‑drone ammunition that allows FPV drones to be shot down using standard small arms. Several types of such rounds have already been approved for military use, and manufacturers aim to reach 400,000 units per month. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Several types of this ammunition have already been cleared for use by the Armed Forces. Among them are the upgraded "Horoshok" rounds in calibres 5.56×45 and 5.45×39. They are designed specifically to destroy drones at short distances — up to 50–60 metres, depending on the calibre.
The main advantage is ease of use. “The special warhead increases the probability of hitting the target, and the key point is that they can simply be loaded into a standard magazine of a soldier’s rifle and used immediately against a drone,” the ministry explained.
These rounds allow each soldier to have an effective tool for countering UAVs without changing weapons or adding extra devices. Manufacturers are already planning major scaling — up to 400,000 rounds per month. This is expected to strengthen defensive capabilities on the front line, where FPV drones have become one of the main threats.
“Such solutions enable every service member to fight UAVs without relying on additional equipment,” the ministry added.
