Hit on CHP in Belgorod causes power outages

On December 10, a strike hit the “Luch” combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Belgorod, causing power outages in several districts of the city.

The incident occurred following air raid sirens, and videos of the explosion were shared across various Telegram channels.

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed damage to the CHP’s engineering infrastructure due to an attack of unknown origin.

This CHP, one of the last operating plants in the region, has previously been targeted, including in November, when shelling caused a large-scale blackout affecting over 20,000 people.

Due to repeated strikes, there is a serious threat to energy facilities in the city, which could affect electricity supply and the livelihood of local residents in the future.

For context, on the night of December 11, Ukrainian drone forces struck two chemical plants and an oil refinery in Russia.
